CUPS Print Sharing on Windows

Usually people set samba and cups together to provide printer sharing on windows. But that's not the only way of print sharing. IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) print sharing is widely adopted print sharing in *nix world and it provide simple yet powerful print sharing. But don't worry, windows also support IPP. Frist, make sure the cups server is accessible from network (take a look at this link http://www.swerdna.net.au/linhowtoprintipp.html).

Then download novel iPrint Client (at this time is ver. 4.36 at his link). Follow the installation instruction carefully. Next thing is download Adobe postcript driver for windows here. Install the Adobe postcript driver to provide print access to the CUPS printer. I assume that shared printer at CUPS server is working.

After all preparation complete, go to windows control panel, select printers and faxes. Double click at add printer. Choose network printer, klik next. Choose connect printer on internet or on home or office network. Type the printer URL. For example my printer URL is http://192.168.19.15:631/printers/HP_LaserJet_1020 (if you don't get it please read CUPS tutorial). Klik next to proceed to the next step. After that choose the printer driver. At this point select the Adobe postcript driver. then klik next to complete the process.

That's it. Now try to print to the CUP printer
