OpenSUSE 11.1 Doki-Doki

OK every SUSE fan already know that tomorrow is openSUSE 11.1 release day. Now I'm wondering in their site to get sneak peak of the new feature or improvement. it seems like everybody already exited with the next release. Even I can find a review on distrowatch, an that's strange, tomorrow is the release day but why there's a review on distrowatch?

Is it possible that people @ opensuse already release the iso? I think that the best chance, so i ended searching the web with google for "openSUSE-11.1-DVD-i586.iso" keyword. And Bang!!! I found a download link for opensuse 11.1 a day before its funal release. Cool :-)

I can't confirm if it's the original release from opensuse. But it worth some time for download right?

Oh, it also worth to check at it feature list here:

Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu SOS DAN Hare Hare Yukai Dance

Long-long time ago, i watch a splendid animation. Actually it's not the best part of the anime stories, but it's the episode ending. No i'ts not ending song, it's the ending! It's the SOS DAN dance in Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu episode.

I'm thinking, somebody must already uploaded in youtube. So I check it at youtube, insert some keyword to query some video, and here is the result.

This video is not the anime version, perhaps the game version. And as usual I'm not the uploader, credit goes to Morizuki for uploading the video.
Enjoy it!!! :-)

A song from the second season of Gundam 00 is here. Hakanaku mo Towa no Kanashi by UVERworld. The song is hosted at imeem.com. Now if only I can find translation for this song. Any suggestion for link, or translation?

Hata Motohiro : Kimi, Meguru, Boku

This is the opening song for Itazura na kiss anime. This is a nice song, with simple and romantic lyrics (like the anime theme). The anime is very funny and romantic (check the wiki link) . You should watch it, especially if you get tire of naruto and blecah filler :-).
You can listen the song at esnips
(the song downloadable if you have internet download manager or internet download acclerator).
And this is the lyrics:

Top XX Reason to Choose Linux Over Windows

Currently I'm using Linux more often than other OS. Why? Here is my reason

  1. Linux easier (Ubuntu, OpenSUSE) to install than other OS (even windows). Plug the CD, boot it up and ready to roll in a few minutes. Almost all driver installed, and necessary program included by default.
  2. Linux perform (relatively) faster than other OS.
  3. Linux easier to maintain. Linux system strong enough to last in a few days with high system load without restart. Also less virus on Linux compare to windows.
  4. Linux is a multi purpose operating system. It serve me well. Solid enough as server, complete enough as desktop or gaming.
  5. When I say gaming, it's not only Linux game but also windows game running on Linux via WINE compatibility layer. WINE already release it first stable version. Thousand windows program now able to run on Linux seamlessly.
  6. Lots of room to experiment and tweak. I can turn my Linux into something "more".
  7. And don't forget that Linux is free. Free as in freedom :-).
Here is some screenshot from my Ubuntu desktop.

Nice Song from Tsubasa Cronichle

Recently I'm watching Tsubasa Chronicle (I don't know why I'm only watch it recently :-D ). Now I know why CLAMP is so good, they are genius. Tsubasa Chronicle definitely one of the best anime I ever watch. But I'm not gonna talk about the anime. I'm talking abut the OST. The title is Yume no Tsubasa by Makino Yui. You can find the lyrics at http://atashi.wordpress.com/2006/09/10/tsubasa-chronicle-insert-song-yume-no-tsubasa/.

Its easy to listen and romantic (I think Tsubasa Chronicle is romantic anime). Dont forget to listen the song at esnips.com right here: http://www.esnips.com/doc/d66bb6d2-ba6f-48f3-90e1-f7ec12756bbe/Yume-no-Tsubasa

I hope you like it, have a nice day :-)

Finally a Working Compiz on Linux Mint

I'm wondering why my intel graphics not working on Linux mint 5. Till now i believe that intel is the best out of box ready graphic card on Linux. I still remember that Linux mint 4 able to detect almost anything on HP 520 laptop. Considering the fact I install Linux mint 5 on the same laptop, but the result is not what i expected. I can't enable compiz fusion on gnome desktop. After doing some googling i found that the problem is in the kernel. Linux mint using old -16 kernel. Soon after updating with Ubuntu 8.041 alternate disk, the problem is solved. Now I can enjoy beautiful Linux desktop. I think I'm gonna pick the "Redmond" got nothing template :-)

CUPS Print Sharing on Windows

Usually people set samba and cups together to provide printer sharing on windows. But that's not the only way of print sharing. IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) print sharing is widely adopted print sharing in *nix world and it provide simple yet powerful print sharing. But don't worry, windows also support IPP. Frist, make sure the cups server is accessible from network (take a look at this link http://www.swerdna.net.au/linhowtoprintipp.html).

Then download novel iPrint Client (at this time is ver. 4.36 at his link). Follow the installation instruction carefully. Next thing is download Adobe postcript driver for windows here. Install the Adobe postcript driver to provide print access to the CUPS printer. I assume that shared printer at CUPS server is working.

After all preparation complete, go to windows control panel, select printers and faxes. Double click at add printer. Choose network printer, klik next. Choose connect printer on internet or on home or office network. Type the printer URL. For example my printer URL is http://192.168.19.15:631/printers/HP_LaserJet_1020 (if you don't get it please read CUPS tutorial). Klik next to proceed to the next step. After that choose the printer driver. At this point select the Adobe postcript driver. then klik next to complete the process.

That's it. Now try to print to the CUP printer

Don't you think Saotome Alto is Kanda's twin brother?

If you to much watching anime like me, soon you'll find similarity on some anime. Take a look at this to picture. This is Kanda from dgrayman.

And this is Saotome Alto from Macross Frontier

So what you think? Whos more beatifull? I think in the picture,Kanda Yuu is more beatifull from Alto Hime :-D

OpenSUSE First Try on My First Laptop

Finally I have my own laptop. It's a cheap HP 520 laptop but it's OK. Equipped with Core Duo T2400 @ 1.83 667 FSB and 2MB L2 cache, this box is good enough for my daily job (and fun). Since OpenSUSE 11 already released, this is the perfect opportunity to test it out.

After a few minuets, OpenSUSE successfully installed, almost all hardware detected and working properly. It's not lightning fast, but it certainly fast and (comfortable) enough for daily usage. OpenSUSE 11 packed with KDE4 (the least stable) and KDE3 (the mature). There is option to install both version (or one of). Certainly KDE4 provide many fresh feature compare to KDE3 but apparently not all the feature is stable enough for daily usage. My experience using KDE4 is fun, but i'ts not the best desktop enviroment yet. So I'm gonna stick with KDE3 for a while :-) (sorry KDE4 team).

Now lets take alook at the software package. As usually OpenSUSE packed with a lot of wonderful software. My daily need is internet and office software, so it's not diffcult to get most of my needs fulfilled. Mp3 is supported out of box, wich is nice, consider that mp3 is the defacto of audio (music) format. But if you want to get full (almost) support of multimedia then consider to add packman repository. After installing mplayer and w32codec (perhaps almost) all multimedia format is playable in OpenSUSE. But we I have some problem playing high quality video. The image seems flicker and rough. I do a cross check by playing the same video on windows machine and they running really smooth. Well thats not a big problem, perhaps some tweak on mplayer could fix it.

The other fun stuff is the desktop effect and wine. Desktop effect seems work out of box onn most intel and ati chips. But still it break some game and video playback, so i suggest to turn off desktop effect while playing game or watching some video. The other fun stuff is wine. They already release the first version on June, so I expecting a better performance and compatibility. After download and install the latest wine and doing some tweaks I continue installing some windows program. Most program running smoothly (Dreamweaver, Navicat MySQL Lite, Microsoft Word Viewer) and some program run a bit rough (SPSS, Microsoft Excel Viewer). To bad Warcraft III seems broken on wine ver 1, I can play warcraft III on OpenSUSE 10.2 with wine ver 0.9 but why it's broken now? Well perhaps not the wine, perhaps i'ts the graphic card, who knows?

But for now, I beleieve that OpenSUSE is a wonderfull distro. I'll keep it on my laptop and use it as my primary OS. Thank you OpenSUSE team :-)

Small Project: Migrating Windows to Linux

Currently I'm working on a migration projet from windows to linux. You know "recently" the "goverment" enforce legal software usage. And in my country, using legal software is something very expensive. So the "only" solution is migrating current software to open source or something cheaper (if any).

Some people choose to migrate to FLOSS and they ask me to set the system. Well, I'm no a linux guru to start with. So the best solution is to choose the easiest distro available. Considering some option I decide to choose openSUSE. Perhaps the only reason I choose openSUSE is because the yast. I'm a windows centric in a way to do everything in computer, so yast is good, i mean really good :-). To setup the server use yast, to setup the printer use yast, to setup the user use yast, to setup the dos emulator use yast. Just kidding, you can't setup dos emulator with yast. But you can install dos emulator easely. My choice is dosemu, openSUSE rpm is available (use google to locate). It performs very nice. In some machine it performs better than windows :-)

But the problem is not simply solved with yast. Main function like file server is no problem. But some problem (some is not quite perfect word to describe it) like printing, print sharing, office program can't solved by yast. Not all printer supported by linux, the only printer nicely supported is HP the other need a lot of struggle to setup.

The office package included in linux is openoffice. Personally I think openoffice is good enough for daily task. But the faithfull user of MS Office can't easely accept the way openoffice works. Some example is the page format menu. MS Office user will find page format/setup under the "file" menu, but in Openoffice page format available under the "format" menu

But still the hardest part is how to change users attitude. Hey where is drive C? What linux? my friend send me file from linux, and I can't open it. Oh my, we must learn linux, why not using windows? That's the hard part. Honestly I don't want to train ther users, but who will? oh well.. just wait and see I guess. Wish me luck :-)

A Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace

by John Perry Barlow

Governments of the Industrial World, you weary giants of flesh and steel, I come from Cyberspace, the new home of Mind. On behalf of the future, I ask you of the past to leave us alone. You are not welcome among us. You have no sovereignty where we gather.

We have no elected government, nor are we likely to have one, so I address you with no greater authority than that with which liberty itself always speaks. I declare the global social space we are building to be naturally independent of the tyrannies you seek to impose on us. You have no moral right to rule us nor do you possess any methods of enforcement we have true reason to fear.

Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. You have neither solicited nor received ours. We did not invite you. You do not know us, nor do you know our world. Cyberspace does not lie within your borders. Do not think that you can build it, as though it were a public construction project. You cannot. It is an act of nature and it grows itself through our collective actions.

You have not engaged in our great and gathering conversation, nor did you create the wealth of our marketplaces. You do not know our culture, our ethics, or the unwritten codes that already provide our society more order than could be obtained by any of your impositions.

You claim there are problems among us that you need to solve. You use this claim as an excuse to invade our precincts. Many of these problems don't exist. Where there are real conflicts, where there are wrongs, we will identify them and address them by our means. We are forming our own Social Contract . This governance will arise according to the conditions of our world, not yours. Our world is different.

Cyberspace consists of transactions, relationships, and thought itself, arrayed like a standing wave in the web of our communications. Ours is a world that is both everywhere and nowhere, but it is not where bodies live.

We are creating a world that all may enter without privilege or prejudice accorded by race, economic power, military force, or station of birth.

We are creating a world where anyone, anywhere may express his or her beliefs, no matter how singular, without fear of being coerced into silence or conformity.

Your legal concepts of property, expression, identity, movement, and context do not apply to us. They are all based on matter, and there is no matter here.

Our identities have no bodies, so, unlike you, we cannot obtain order by physical coercion. We believe that from ethics, enlightened self-interest, and the commonweal, our governance will emerge . Our identities may be distributed across many of your jurisdictions. The only law that all our constituent cultures would generally recognize is the Golden Rule. We hope we will be able to build our particular solutions on that basis. But we cannot accept the solutions you are attempting to impose.

In the United States, you have today created a law, the Telecommunications Reform Act, which repudiates your own Constitution and insults the dreams of Jefferson, Washington, Mill, Madison, DeToqueville, and Brandeis. These dreams must now be born anew in us.

You are terrified of your own children, since they are natives in a world where you will always be immigrants. Because you fear them, you entrust your bureaucracies with the parental responsibilities you are too cowardly to confront yourselves. In our world, all the sentiments and expressions of humanity, from the debasing to the angelic, are parts of a seamless whole, the global conversation of bits. We cannot separate the air that chokes from the air upon which wings beat.

In China, Germany, France, Russia, Singapore, Italy and the United States, you are trying to ward off the virus of liberty by erecting guard posts at the frontiers of Cyberspace. These may keep out the contagion for a small time, but they will not work in a world that will soon be blanketed in bit-bearing media.

Your increasingly obsolete information industries would perpetuate themselves by proposing laws, in America and elsewhere, that claim to own speech itself throughout the world. These laws would declare ideas to be another industrial product, no more noble than pig iron. In our world, whatever the human mind may create can be reproduced and distributed infinitely at no cost. The global conveyance of thought no longer requires your factories to accomplish.

These increasingly hostile and colonial measures place us in the same position as those previous lovers of freedom and self-determination who had to reject the authorities of distant, uninformed powers. We must declare our virtual selves immune to your sovereignty, even as we continue to consent to your rule over our bodies. We will spread ourselves across the Planet so that no one can arrest our thoughts.

We will create a civilization of the Mind in Cyberspace. May it be more humane and fair than the world your governments have made before.

In Quest of Perfect Anime Centrix Linux Distro

Until the next openSUSE

Recently I'm thinking about installing opensuse to download, watch, write about anime. It have to be a perfect desktop, with full support of current internet and multimedia technology. And if you serious with Linux, then your choice might be Ubuntu, Mandriva, OpenSuse, or Redhat/CentOS.

OpenSuse is my favorite, they have strong company behind them, an active community, lots of extras and best software collection (of course this is my personal point of view). To get it up and running, I refer to how to forge article http://howtoforge.com/the_perfect_desktop_opensuse10.3. If you don't like gnome or prefer other desktop environment just choose different desktop environment at package selection stage.

Installation is a piece of cake :-) the hard part is enabling 3d desktop with ati radeon. I've try to download the driver from ati website, add ati repository, but the driver just won't work. It's not like I can't live without compiz, I just want to play Warcraft III with wine (you can't play without the correct display driver).

I think the display issue is enough for now. Time to put some gear on Firefox. To download anime we must prepare download manager. Linux already have wget, or kget (if you use kde/konqueror). But downloading with wget can be better with flashgot Firefox extension. If you prefer full download integration with firefox then take a look at DownThemAll. With DownThemAll we have full control of download. Queuing, Link, Filtering download etc. To download streaming media(movie or audio), the best (I think) is downloadhelper. It can download from any(if not almost) any streaming site like youtube.com, crunchyroll.com, esnips.com etc.

The only missing part is I can't schedule the linux box to power off when download finished. any suggestion?

images

I'm moving my blogs template image at http://yyyholic.googlepages.com/home
now this blog looks much better :-)

Wow it's a brand new xxxHOLIC:kei

I'm so happy, coz today i found that new xxxholic episode is airing. Actually i'm a little late coz it's already at third episode. Well better late than none right? The new series is xxxHOLIC:kei
If you never watch xxxHOLIC then watch it now, get the first season episode and the movie (or ova? i don't know i can't recall it). And if you already watch xxxHOLIC season one then what you waiting for. Get The New Episode Now!!

Btw you can watch it online at crunchyroll.com, here is the link:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/series-12675/xxxHOLiC-Kei.html

Have a nice day everyone :-)

Anime You Should Try

Theres lot of anime out there, but where to start? If you new in anime i would suggest to watch some series, here is the list :

On Going Anime:
Naruto/Naruto Shippuuden
Dgrayman
Bleach

Complete Anime
Death Note
Full Metal Alchemist
Busou Renkin
Claymore
Ahh My Goddess (season 1 and 2)
Kekkaishi
History Strongest Desciple Kenichi

Mostly action or comedy and available on realitylapse.com

About Ani-Mon

Mmm where to start? The url is yyyholic.blogspot.com obviously inspired by CLAMP's xxxholic. The title is Ani-mon (Anime Monster) inspired by digimon's creature name. You know, every creature name in digimon world always ended with "mon" like devimon, greymon, gabumon, etc. So ani-mon is like an digital creature anime holic :-D

PS:
I have no relation with animonster magazine

Anime download link

Second Post. I have lots of job lately, so tire :-(. I wish i have enough time to review some anime or watch new episode of naruto and dgrayman. If only i have 24 hour internet access, then it would be good :-D

You know internet is very expensive here. So if you want to get the lattest anime, you must pick the best site. A good site to download anime is realitylapse.com. They have amaizing collection of anime. No need to register, just download for free. Of course if you pay some money, you can have some benefit (faster download, newer episode, bla bla bla..)

And dont forget crunchyroll.com. Its not download site, but they provide anime streaming and with some tools like videodownloader plugin for firefox its possible to download from crunchyroll. But I not recommend to download from crunchyroll, since the video quality is poor.

Both of site is my favourite, any suggestion?
